LIVING IN FORESTBROOK SC

Last updated November 2026

THE SHORT ANSWER

Forestbrook is a residential community in Horry County, South Carolina, about 15 minutes west of downtown Myrtle Beach. It is not a city. It sits along Forestbrook Road between US 501 and the Socastee area and uses zip codes 29579 and 29588.

Forestbrook gets searched a lot by buyers who want a Myrtle Beach address with more space and less tourist traffic. I have been in real estate since 1995, and I work with buyers and sellers across Horry County and Brunswick County. These are the questions people ask me most about Forestbrook, along with the latest market numbers.

01

Is Forestbrook SC a city?

THE SHORT ANSWER

No. Forestbrook is an unincorporated community in Horry County. It has no town government of its own, and Horry County provides zoning, permits and services.

Many Forestbrook homes have a Myrtle Beach mailing address but sit outside Myrtle Beach city limits. That affects taxes and services. The tax record shows whether a home is in the city or the county, and I check it on every home I show.

02

03

Zip code 29579 also includes Carolina Forest, where many newer homes pull the median up. Older Forestbrook neighborhoods often sell closer to the 29588 numbers. For a specific street, I pull recent sales right around the home.

05

Is Forestbrook SC a good place to live?

THE SHORT ANSWER

It depends on what you want. Forestbrook offers established neighborhoods, larger lots in some areas and a quick drive to the beach. It is a car-based area, and some homes near the Waccamaw River sit in flood zones.

Some neighborhoods near the river have flooded during past hurricanes. Ask for the flood zone, any flood history and an elevation certificate if one exists. Get insurance quotes early. I often send clients to Keith Gore with Brightlight Insurance (910-207-7662).

Drive the area after a heavy rain and at rush hour before you decide.

06

What are the suburbs of Myrtle Beach?

THE SHORT ANSWER

Popular communities around Myrtle Beach include Carolina Forest, Forestbrook, Socastee, Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, Conway, Little River and Longs. Each has its own feel, price range and drive time to the beach.

Some are incorporated towns, like Surfside Beach and Conway. Others, like Forestbrook, Socastee and Carolina Forest, are unincorporated parts of Horry County. You can compare them in my Moving to Horry County SC guide.
