Holden Beach is a quiet barrier island town in Brunswick County, NC. It's known for a relaxed, low-key feel, with mostly homes and very little commercial building on the island. I'm Danielle King, a REALTOR® with Realty ONE Group Dockside, licensed in NC and SC. Here's what you should know before you buy on Holden Beach.
Holden Beach is in Brunswick County, North Carolina, between Ocean Isle Beach and Oak Island. A high-rise bridge on NC 130 connects the island to Supply on the mainland.

Low. For fiscal year 2026-27, the Town of Holden Beach kept its rate at $0.14 per $100 of assessed value. The Brunswick County rate is $0.34 per $100. Together that's about $0.48 per $100.
For example, a $900,000 home pays about $4,320 a year in combined county and town property tax.
It can. It's a barrier island, so storms, high tides, and heavy rain can bring water onto low streets. Most island homes are in a flood zone, and lenders require flood insurance there. Get flood and wind insurance quotes during due diligence. On the island, insurance can change your monthly cost more than a small price difference. I pull the flood zone and any elevation certificate for you.
Many owners rent their homes during the summer. Check town rules and any HOA limits for the exact address first, and plan for slower winter months. I help investors buy, but I don't manage rentals, and my brokerage doesn't either. See my short-term rental investor guide.
The beach is the main draw, with a quieter feel than busier resort towns. Fishing, kayaking, and boating on the canals and the waterway are part of daily life. The town-owned fishing pier has been under study for repairs, so check its status before you plan around it.

Yes. Many of my buyers are relocating or buying a second home. I do live video tours, send inspection photos and notes, and use e-signing so you can buy without flying in more than once.

Call or text me with the street you like and your timeline. If you're selling, see what your home is worth.
