Saturday, October 17, 2026, in downtown Loris, SC 29569. The festival is always held on the third Saturday in October. The Loris Chamber of Commerce at 4242 Main Street hosts it. Loris is about 30 minutes inland from North Myrtle Beach, at Highway 9 and Highway 701.

Arrive early. The festival draws big crowds, and downtown parking fills up fast.
What Is Chicken Bog?
Chicken bog is a one-pot dish of chicken, rice and smoked sausage, cooked with seasoning until the rice soaks up the broth. It is a classic in Horry County and the Pee Dee. People say it is called "bog" because the chicken gets bogged down in the rice. Every family has its own recipe, and the Bog-Off is where cooks put theirs to the test.
What Is There to Do at the Bog-Off?
- Chicken bog cooking contest. The heart of the festival since it started in 1980.
- Chicken bog plates. Cooks sell plates on site. Go early, because the best ones sell out.
- Over 200 vendors. Arts, crafts and festival food like funnel cakes and homemade ice cream.
- Two stages. Local dance schools, school choruses and local bands.
- Kids' area. Activities for little ones.
- Fireworks and a free concert to close the night.
Is There a 5K at the Loris Bog-Off?
Yes. The Loris "Chicken Run" Bog-Off 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. on October 17. Runners meet at the corner of Casey Street and Meeting Street. Registration is $45 on RunSignup, and it stays open through race day.
